No Talent Wasted in Phoenix.

After a long weekend of contention between Tony Finau and Webb Simpson, the Waste Management Phoenix Open came to an end.
We knew that Webb Simpson was on a roll after his hole-in-one on the 12th hole on Saturday afternoon, but on Sunday they put on a show and gave the fans one day to remember (or at least to those who were sober enough to remember).
Webb Simpson started with the lead at (-16) after a 6-ft birdie on 10th, and Finau would not get to him until the 12th hole where he made a 25-ft putt for birdie, which will help him co-lead the tournament and later become the solo leader at (-17) with back-to-back birdies.
Simpson took 5 holes to get back to co-lead with Finau, when on the 18th hole he holed a 6-ft birdie, while Finau missed his 8 ½ -ft and will take them both onto a playoff.
The playoff took place on the 18th hole again, but Finau missed a long putt for birdie and the chance to put pressure on Simpson, however, Simpson made a 10-ft putt for the victory.
The Phoenix Open is known for its 16th stadium hole where all the fans are always expecting to see the best shots from the professionals. Fans will line up outside the course’s gate as early as 4 A.M to get a good seat for the day’s round.
This year’s tournament took place a week after the sudden helicopter crash in which Kobe Bryant, his 13 year-old daughter Gianna, and 7 other people died. The whole world was devastated by this horrific news, and the PGA Tour took advantage of the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale to show tribute to Bryant’s death
The PGA Tour also chose to honor him by setting the Sunday’s pin location at the 16th hole 24 steps on and 8 steps from the left, which signify Bryant’s jersey numbers that he wore throughout his career at the Los Angeles Lakers.

Professionals like Tony Finau and Justin Thomas wore Kobe’s Lakers and Lower Merion High School jerseys when they played the par-3 all four days of the tournament, as well as many fans on the stands who were impacted by Bryant’s legacy.
This year’s Phoenix Open was equally as exciting and emotional, honoring one of the best basketball players while watching great golfers play some good golf.
